We are officially a waiting family! Our home study is complete -- no more interviews, paperwork, or weekly drives to and from Houston for trainings, meetings, etc. The adoption agency could call us tonight or next week or next year to tell us that we have been chosen by a birth mother. We are waiting.
Last night, Jeremy and I were talking about how weird it is to not know when we will be having a child, but to be living like we are expecting one. Most people that are "expecting" know that the baby will come in about 9 months, but for us, it could be 9 days, 9 weeks, 9 months .... or who knows when?! So, the question becomes, what to do while waiting? Every adoptive family is different, but for us, we are preparing as if we were pregnant. We are getting a nursery together, we've registered on Amazon, and a few different friends have graciously offered to plan a baby shower for us! Needless to say, we are excited!
We are also continuing to work to save and raise money to pay for our adoption. We set an initial goal of saving and raising $25,000, which we are excited to announce we have officially met that goal!! $25,000 is the very lowest that our adoption will cost, but based on a few different factors, it could cost up to $35,000. We would be THRILLED to have all $35,000, in case it ends up being that much. We are still fundraising with our Tree of Life fundraiser. If you have been thinking about purchasing a leaf, we would love for you to go ahead and do that. You can click on this link to read more about the fundraiser and to donate.
So, while we have no clue when we will actually become parents, we are excited to be done with our home study and are anticipating big changes in our future. Thanks for sharing this journey with us. We appreciate all of your prayers and words of encouragement!
